Κατά τήν ὀμιλία του στην Ὁλομέλεια τῆς Βουλῆς τῆς 20-5-2025 ὁ Πρόεδρος κ. Δημήτριος Νατσιός, μεταξύ ἂλλων, κατέθεσε καί τήν πολύ σημαντική πρόταση νά δοθεῖ προτεραιότητα στήν κάλυψη τῶν κενῶν ἀνειδίκευτων θέσεων ἐργασίας τῆς ἑλληνικῆς οἰκονομίας ἀπό τούς δεινοπαθοῦντες ἀδελφούς μας Ὀρθόδοξους Ρωμηούς της Συρίας.
Μεταξύ ἂλλων ἀνέφερε ὃτι κάθε χρόνο, ἡ χώρα μας εἰσάγει δεκάδες χιλιάδες ἐργαζόμενους ἀπὸ τρίτες χώρες μέσῳ διακρατικῶν συμφωνιῶν, ὅπως μὲ τὴν Ἰνδία, τὶς Φιλιππίνες, τὸ Μπαγκλαντές, τὸ Βιετνάμ καὶ ἄλλες μακρινὲς χώρες, τῶν ὁποίων οἱ πολιτισμικὲς καὶ θρησκευτικὲς ρίζες εἶναι μακριὰ ἀπὸ τὴν ἑλληνικὴ πραγματικότητα.
Τὴν ἴδια στιγμὴ, δεκάδες χιλιάδες Ρωμηοὶ Ὀρθόδοξοι, ἱστορικὰ συγγενεῖς μὲ τὸ ἑλληνικὸ ἔθνος, βρίσκονται ὑπὸ διωγμὸ καὶ ἀπειλοῦνται μὲ ἀφανισμὸ στὴν Συρία καὶ σὲ ἄλλες περιοχὲς τῆς Μέσης Ἀνατολῆς. Αὐτοὶ οἱ ἄνθρωποι εἶναι ἀπόγονοι τῶν πολιτῶν τῆς Ἀνατολικῆς Ρωμαϊκῆς Αὐτοκρατορίας, τῆς Ρωμανίας, ὅπως εἶναι τὸ ὀρθὸ ἱστορικὸ ὄνομα τῆς πατρίδος μας κατὰ τοὺς μέσους χρόνους, οἱ ὁποῖοι ἐδῶ καὶ αἰῶνες διατηροῦν τὴν ὀρθόδοξη πίστη, καὶ τὴν κοινη παράδοση τῶν προγόνων μας. Ἁπλῶς λόγῳ τῶν ἱστορικῶν συνθηκῶν ἀναγκάστηκαν να ὁμιλήσουν ἀραβικά.
Ἀντί, λοιπόν, νὰ καταφεύγουμε σὲ λύσεις ποὺ δὲν ἐνισχύουν τὴν πολιτισμικὴ συνοχὴ καὶ τὴν θρησκευτικὴ μας συνέχεια, ὀφείλουμε νὰ σκεφτοῦμε σοβαρὰ τὴν προτεραιότητα ποὺ πρέπει νὰ δώσουμε σὲ αὐτοὺς τοὺς ἀνθρώπους. Οἱ Ρωμηοὶ Ὀρθόδοξοι τῆς Συρίας, ποὺ ζοῦν ὑπὸ συνεχῆ ἀπειλὴ ἐξόντωσης ἀπὸ φανατικὲς δυνάμεις, ἀποτελοῦν ἕνα πολύτιμο κομμάτι τῆς ἱστορικῆς μας κληρονομιᾶς. Εἶναι ἀδέρφια μας στὸ πνεῦμα, στὸν πολιτισμὸ καὶ στὴν πίστη, καὶ ἡ Ἑλλάδα πρέπει νὰ σταθεῖ στὸ πλευρό τους.
Ἡ Ἑλλάδα ὀφείλει νὰ διαμορφώσει μιὰ ἐθνικὴ στρατηγικὴ ποὺ θὰ δίνει προτεραιότητα στους Ρωμηούς τῆς Συρίας γιὰ τὴν κάλυψη αὐτῶν τῶν κενῶν θέσεων ἐργασίας ποὺ ἔχει ἀνάγκη ἡ ἑλληνικὴ οἰκονομία. Και αὐτό ὂχι μόνo γιὰ νὰ καλύψουμε τὶς ἀνάγκες τῆς οἰκονομίας μας, ἀλλὰ καὶ γιὰ νὰ ἐνισχύσουμε τοὺς δεσμοὺς μας μὲ τὶς ρωμαίικες κοινότητες τῆς Ἀνατολῆς, ἐπιβεβαιώνοντας τὸν ρόλο τῆς Ἑλλάδας ὡς φυσικῆς ἡγετίδας δύναμης τοῦ Ἑλληνοθροδόξου κόσμου, τοῦ Ρωμαίικου κόσμου.
Μιὰ τέτοια προσέγγιση θὰ προσφέρει πολλαπλὰ ὀφέλη:
(α) Θὰ ἐνισχύσει τὶς παραγωγικὲς μας δυνάμεις μὲ ἐργατικὸ δυναμικὸ ποὺ μοιράζεται κοινὲς ἀξίες καὶ πολιτισμικὲς ρίζες μὲ τὸν ἑλληνικὸ λαό,
(β) Θὰ συμβάλει στὴν πολιτισμικὴ καὶ θρησκευτικὴ συνοχὴ τῆς κοινωνίας μας,
(γ) Θὰ προστατεύσει αὐτὲς τὶς ἱστορικὲς κοινότητες ἀπὸ τὸν ἀφανισμό, δίνοντάς τους τὴ δυνατότητα νὰ ζήσουν μὲ ἀξιοπρέπεια καὶ ἀσφάλεια και
(δ) Θὰ ἀναδείξει τὴν Ἑλλάδα ὡς προστάτιδα δύναμη τῶν ὀρθοδόξων λαῶν τῆς Ἀνατολῆς, ἐνισχύοντας τὸ γεωπολιτικὸ μας ἀποτύπωμα.
Οἱ Ρωμηοὶ τῆς Συρίας ἀξίζει νά λάβουν τὴν προτεραιότητα ποὺ τοὺς ὀφείλομε.

Filling Unskilled Job Vacancies in Greece with Priority Given to Our Suffering Orthodox Romeoi Brethren from Syria
During his address to the Hellenic Parliament’s Plenary Session on May 20, 2025, the President of NIKI, Mr. Dimitrios Natsios, presented, among other matters, a highly significant proposal: that priority be granted to our suffering Orthodox Romeoi brethren from Syria in filling unskilled labor positions within the Greek economy.
Mr. Natsios noted that every year, Greece imports tens of thousands of workers from third countries through bilateral agreements, including with India, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and other distant nations—countries whose cultural and religious roots are far removed from the Greek reality.
At the same time, tens of thousands of Orthodox Romeoi—our historic kin—are under persecution and face the threat of extinction in Syria and other parts of the Middle East. These individuals are descendants of the citizens of the Eastern Roman Empire, Romania—the historically accurate name of our homeland in the medieval era. They have preserved the Orthodox faith and the shared tradition of our ancestors for centuries. Their sole divergence lies in having adopted the Arabic language due to historical circumstances.
Instead of turning to solutions that weaken our cultural cohesion and religious continuity, we must seriously consider the priority that ought to be granted to these people. The Orthodox Romeoi of Syria, who live under the constant threat of extermination by fanatic forces, represent a precious part of our historical heritage. They are our brothers in spirit, in culture, and in faith—and Greece must stand by them.
Greece has a duty to formulate a national strategy that prioritizes the Romeoi of Syria in filling the unskilled labor shortages that our economy currently faces. This should not only be done to meet economic needs but also to strengthen our bonds with the Romeiko communities of the East, reaffirming Greece’s role as the natural leading power of the Helleno-Orthodox world—the Romeiko world.
Such an approach would yield multiple benefits:
(a) It would reinforce our productive capacity with a labor force that shares common values and cultural roots with the Greek people.
(b) It would contribute to the cultural and religious cohesion of our society.
(c) It would protect these historic communities from annihilation, offering them the opportunity to live with dignity and security.
(d) It would affirm Greece’s role as the guardian of the Orthodox peoples of the East, strengthening our geopolitical presence.
The Romeoi of Syria deserve the priority we owe them.
